2026 Oct 16 - Knit Radar

I thought it was finally time to have a single post on this one accessory for the flatbed knitting machine

My standard 4.5 mm SK 700 Has the knit radar 7 built in

By chunky SK155 9 millimetre Has the knit radar seven as a separate accessory that sits upon the main machine with pegs.

I thought I’d make this post to remind myself going forward in the future: the differences in similarities and what to look for in terms of the accessories that go with each, depending on the gauge of the machine used

Standard 4.5 mm machine uses green stitch/row rulers

Chunky 9mm machine uses blue stitch/row rulers

How to Identify and Read the Rulers

  • Check the Corner Markings: Each gauge ruler in your set has an identifying number or color code stamped on the corner or end. [1, 2]

  • Dual-Sided Sides (R and S):

    • The side marked S is for your stitch count (horizontal measurement).

    • The side marked R is for your row count (vertical measurement). [1, 2]

  • Standard vs. Bulky Distinction:

    • Standard-gauge rulers usually feature the same scale number on both sides (numbered 1–20).

    • Bulky-gauge rulers advance by different single-number increments on each side (numbered 1–24).

    • Color-coded generic rulers (such as green for standard, yellow for mid-gauge, and blue for bulky) indicate different overall machine pitch scales.
