2026 Sep 30 - Peg Loom a Round Rug

I built my own peg loom, and then I built one as a gift.

This Gift Peg Loom has 31 peg holes. and 31 (plus some extra pegs). The pegs can be stored in their own zippered bag along with the threader used to string up the string in each peg base. Apologies for not knowing their weaving names. Want to make your own? See my other blog entry Link to come soon.

This blog entry is my using the gift peg loom to create a woven round rug. I found the method on YouTube for this rug here.

The great thing about this style of loom, as you can use it as if the pegs could not come out (they can), and do a style of cork knitting or peg knitting, You can use all the pegs and all the slots, and use a finer woven fabric, or you could indiscriminately take out certain pegs to leave more space between them and use a much thicker woven material to make a much thicker project density.

The YouTube project says to start by preparing the warp strings. 12 warps. I used a strong cotton.

The project suggests to create the following warp lengths which I recommend we follow, even if your project is going to be not using all of that length

Measurements:

4pcs 16ft long (192”) - I used 180”

4pcs 12ft long (144”) - I used 134”

2pcs 6ft long (72”) - I used 62”

2pcs 4ft long (48”) - I used 45”

Now we need to put a temporary loose knot on the ends of each grouping. So the longest warps on the left, I’ve put a gentle knot at the end Same for the next four warps. Same for the next two And then the final two. These temporary knots help prevent the weaving from falling off and will be undone later

Now I took my icord, which I previously created, and as per the video, laid the beginning or the end of my iCard 3 inches off the one side where the longest warps are, and then proceeded just to go in and out, in and out, in and out each peg. Follow the video.
